Organic Skin Care – Helping People With History of Hypersensitive Reactions to Avoid Recurrence

Posted by: Susan Wilson - Natural Organic Makeup  :  Category: organic cosmetics

People have been using cosmetics way back before we have developed its recent forms. Just like any other invention, time, knowledge and technology has perfected it. Before it became hypoallergenic or free from irritants, people had encountered various problems upon its usage. It is a fact that many women literally suffered in the name of beauty. However, thanks to various cosmetic companies improvements were made to make them user-friendly.

When people have realized the importance of taking care of the body, they also have been meticulous in choosing the products for the skin. Since there are still reported groups about people having problems with the use of cosmetics, a more natural version has been introduced. The introduction of these products was done through proper research and development. The method is based on the concept of ancient application of cosmetics but this time around, substances used are confidently less harmful or not at all. As people are starting to be informed buyers, they will definitely resort to this kind of cosmetics. Since then, the use of organic skin care has been commonly sought after.

Most of these cosmetics are concoction of the most famous natural ingredients. They involve using of oils of various plants like fruit extracts, chamomile, jojoba and other herbs that has proven medical and therapeutic uses. Sometimes, despite something natural, other skins tend to have hypersensitivity reaction. Therefore, to make sure they are right for you, follow these tips:

1. Learn to read labels. When you know what the cosmetic is composed of then you will definitely avoid those that can trigger allergic reactions in you.

2. If you are naturally hypersensitive, talk to your dermatologists and ask for advices with regard to make-up use.

3. If you think you can use the product but you are just in doubt, do skin testing. Apply a small portion of the cosmetic product on the inner portion of your arm or at the back of your ear.

4. If you are known for hypersensitivity reactions, do not allow make up to stay overnight even if it does not cause skin problems on the first few days of use. Remove it before you go to sleep. Better yet, apply proper skin care at night.

5. If you want to know how the components of the cosmetic works, research them. Nothing beats an informed user when it comes to using cosmetics. Even if they are organic skin care products, you still have to be vigilant about it. Your beauty is at risk.

Allergic reactions are abnormal but we cannot control them. Our immune systems have different response to antigen contact. That is why anyone who has this history should know what the last cosmetic (that caused the problem) was made of.

Nobody knows how your body operates except you. Remember as well that you are buying these products to enhance your beauty not to destroy it. Therefore, it is important to pay attention to details when it concerns to your skin. Also do not settle for less when it comes to your beauty.

Is Organic Really Better?

Posted by: Susan Wilson - Natural Organic Makeup  :  Category: organic beauty

In one word- yes. organic beauty ingredients are derivatives from the Earth and do not contain the chemicals, colors or harmful elements that other well-known beauty companies include in their products. Often, there are as many as 5,000 chemicals used in beauty products according to a report by CBS News in 2003 that can be harmful to your overall health after years of constant exposure. For this reason, checking labels is the best practice to determine whether or not the products you are using are actually organic and natural.

The term “Organic” actually means the product has been regulated and certified by the USDA to maintain the product’s integrity of omitting chemically enhanced ingredients. Because organic and natural products exclude destructive particles, they are less likely to cause irritation, inflammation and provoke allergies. Additionally, they do not contain substances that will intoxicate your body with additives, preservatives and synthetic ingredients. Natural products are those, which have been formulated with only natural ingredients but have not necessarily been tested by the USDA’s standards to be considered “organic”. Again, it is up to the consumer to remain educated and to habitually check product labels for any ingredients that may be regarded as man-made substances. Product labels list the ingredients in a descending order so the consumer may quickly find out an estimate of how the ingredients are broken down.

Everyday, our skin absorbs toxins, whether it is from pollutants in the air, products we lather on or soak in, or harmful UV rays from the sun as well as tanning beds. Because we are so prone to damaging our skin, it is vital to remain cautious when considering a new beauty regimen in order to alleviate the symptoms of aging while also continuing to stay cognizant about how to keep toxins off of and out of our bodies. Regularly, we neglect to check the labels on the soaps, body washes, shampoos and conditioners we buy. Soaps enhanced with chemicals and perfumes are slightly damaging while perfumed bath salts and bath bombs that are not natural and/or organic are also a major mutilation to your skin. Natural products work just as well as chemically enhanced goods; however, they omit contaminants which ultimately make them a much healthier and safer option.

Cosmetic and beauty companies can virtually include any ingredient in their products they wish, which almost makes them comparable to cigarette companies. Do you want to know what is going on your skin? Absolutely! Since most Americans are not adept at translating ingredients such as phenoxyethanol or tocopheryl acetate, it is in their best interest to buy products with ingredients which are in laymen’s terms. Both ingredients listed above are found in many beauty products and have been linked as a cause of cancer according to the non-profit, Environmental Working Group, which educates people about safe cosmetics and beauty products. Ingredients in organic and natural products will never list items that have scientific names to ensure that you, as a consumer, know exactly what you are using. Also, the company which manufactures the product you are buying should offer information about all of their ingredients on their website if they have one. If not, don’t buy the product. You, as a consumer, have a right to know what you are using.

For all of those who are considered product addicts and buy products based on their fabulous smell, gleaming packaging or celebrity endorsements, be sure to turn the package over and review the contents of the product you are about to purchase. It may not be as good for you as you think.

Natural Skincare – What You Must Know About

Posted by: Susan Wilson - Natural Organic Makeup  :  Category: natural skincare

Today’s market is flooded with skincare products that claim to be all-natural.  The truth is that many of these products are far from what they claim to be.  Truly natural skincare products are free of artificial perfumes, dyes, and chemicals.

Often, a product will claim to be natural when it is actually using synthetic versions of natural minerals and proteins.  With so many ingredients in each product, it may seem like a daunting task to find out if a product line is truly natural, but with my help, you will be able to weed out the artificial products with ease.

The best way to find out more about a product is to go to the manufacturer’s website.  An honest product will have a clear list of ingredients, as well as explanations of active ingredients and how they work to benefit you.  If you see alcohols and perfumes, you should typically be a little leery of the product.

In addition to being chemical in origin, alcohols actually dry out your skin and make it slightly irritated.  Perfumes are often made with chemicals as well, and some even have ingredients that can be toxic in large doses.  It is important to keep in mind that anything you put on your skin will also enter into your bloodstream as it is absorbed.

If a company’s website does not fully answer your questions, you still have ways to find out if the product is truly all-natural.  The first is to call the customer service number listed on the product’s packaging.  A product made by a reputable company will have someone available to answer and address any concerns you may have.  If this does not work, then use your Internet to perform searches on any ingredients you are not sure of.

Where all of this can get tricky is with certain proteins.  Keratin, for example is often a listed ingredient on natural skincare products.  Many companies use a man-made version of keratin that while structurally similar, is unrecognizable to the skin and therefore essentially useless in producing real results.

Some companies, however, use a wool derived form of Keratin called Functional Keratin that is close enough to the Keratin produced by our own bodies that the skin is able to use it to reduce wrinkles and promote skin firmness and elasticity.

A patented version of Functional Keratin known as CynergyTK uses a patented method of rendering the Keratin so that it is so much like human skin that it has actually been nicknamed liquid skin.  This is just one of the many proteins that you will have to look into when selecting a natural skincare cream or lotion.

If all of this sounds like a lot of work, rest assured that it is not.  Most of this research can be done from the comfort of your own home.  Once you find a natural skincare line that you believe in, that has shown documented results and has proven research, the work is over.

It is worth a great deal of homework to stop spending money on chemicals and products that simply don’t work.  What are you waiting for?  Look today and put your skincare worries to rest for good.

Mineral Makeup: Naked Minerals Cosmetics

Posted by: Susan Wilson - Natural Organic Makeup  :  Category: natural cosmetics

Mineral cosmetics come from inert ingredients that are found in nature, then they are made into a fine powder. These minerals are harmless because they are not chemically reactive, which is why they are called inert. They also benefit the skin since they are all natural. They are referred to as naked minerals because they are nearly invisible on the skin and because of their natural composition.

There are many benefits of using mineral cosmetics. They are non-comedogenic and hence, are ideally suited for sensitive skin types. Since the mineral makeup powder is extremely fine, they do not clog the skin pores, and hence they keep the skin clean and allow it to breathe. Bacterial growth does not occur because the minerals are inert and inorganic. This is very beneficial for the skin and helps to prevent many skin conditions.

The texture of mineral makeup is lighter and finer than that of traditional cosmetics. It creates a layer of microscopic flat crystals, which functions like a filter, on the skin. This thin layer gives the skin a natural look that is sheer and translucent – a look often referred to as “naked minerals.” Smearing is not a problem with so thin a layer of makeup, so your appearance stays fresh longer.

These cosmetics do not contain harmful chemical preservatives like dyes or parabens which can cause allergic reaction, because the inert and natural composition of these products means that they don’t need preservatives in order to increase their shelf life. The products have a high SPF, because of the main ingredients titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, which act as effective sunscreen agents, providing extra protection against skin cancer. These cosmetics also contain Mica, which will make your skin look softer and smoother by covering up fine lines and wrinkles with a sheer makeup effect.

The anti-inflammatory nature of the zinc oxide makes these an excellent choice for those who have a skin condition, since the makeup helps with healing. Also, the skin can be made younger and healthier by the natural ingredients in the makeup such as clay.

Styling gurus love naked minerals used in cosmetics. Dermatologists also recommend cosmetics with naked minerals because they are made with natural ingredients. For this reason, mineral powder makeup is better than regular cosmetics, which contain many harsh chemical compounds.

Anyone know how to make homemade yummy yet organic treats for puppy or dogs?

Posted by: Susan Wilson - Natural Organic Makeup  :  Category: organic make up

I keep buying Pet Co treats for my 12 week old pup. I try to buy the ones with NO PRESERVATIVES and such. Also, I poach chicken thighs in an organic veg or chicken bouillon stock cube. (ok… I’m a professional chef… don’t get mad :) )

But I want to make some cracker type snacks and what I’d love to master and make is an amazing LONG-lasting chewy goodness of something to keep her busy, especially when she wakes me up at 5:30am and I’m not quite awake yet to play with her.

Any cool recipe’s or ideas out there?

Thanks!

How about a large raw meaty bone?

I know it isnt something you can bake but it is much healthier and will keep her occupied whilst cleaning her teeth.

I feed my boy lamb/mutton shanks, whole lamb/mutton necks, roo tails, lamb off cuts, large rib pieces, soup bones and lamb/mutton legs.

She will love them. And you know exactly what she is eating.

are parabens in skincare products safe or dangerous? what are good natural preservative alternatives?

Posted by: Susan Wilson - Natural Organic Makeup  :  Category: natural skincare

Parabens – An estrogen mimic, parabens are preservatives with antibacterial properties. Widely used in all kinds of personal care products, paraben is usually preceded by the prefixes methyl-, ethyl-, butyl-, or propyl-. Parabens can cause allergic reactions or contact dermatitis in some people. Preservatives are one of the leading causes of contact dermatitis. There are safer practical alternatives to parabens, including vitamin E, vitamin C and grapefruit seed extract.

Parabens are alarming because they are considered Xenoestrogens – synthetic compounds that act like the sex hormone estrogen. The following prefixes are often associated with parabens on labels for common household items: methyl, ethyl, propyl and butyl. They are widely used in foods, pharmaceuticals, toiletries and cosmetics.
Cosmetic products have potentially the highest doses of parabens, as the products pass directly into the bloodstream, missing the gastrointestinal tract where they could have the chance to break down. Some 13,200 cosmetic products are said to contain some form of parabens.

When used by pregnant Mothers, parabens have been linked to premature sexual development in girls and marked increased birth defects and reproductive abnormalities in boys. Early in 2004, English researchers found parabens in samples of breast tumors. The lead researcher, Dr. Phillippa Darbre, a molecular biologist at the University of Reading in Edinburgh, found that the form of parabens found in 18 of the 20 tumors tested indicated that they originated from something applied to the skin – most likely deodorants or antiperspirants. As breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in women, we must educate ourselves when it comes to any and everything we can do to prevent this horrible disease.
