what is the best Organic brand for cosmetics quality wise?

Posted by: Susan Wilson - Natural Organic Makeup  :  Category: organic cosmetics

I am about to be 19 and i’ve just opened my eyes to organic products and was researching about all the harmful chemicals that are in my lotions and makeup and shampoos that i use everyday. I just want to live a little healthier. I need to find GOOD QUALITY organic or natural cosmetics and personal care products. So which brand do you reccommend?
please post links
Thanks!

Congratulations on becoming more aware of the importance of buying organic!! Your decision to go this route is awesome and will be great for you and for the planet!

Luckily, you have plenty of choices when it comes to QUALITY organic products. Here are a few suggestions.

I highly recommend Physicians Formula Organic wear Natural Origin Makeup. Not only is it good for you and the environment, but it is great quality, and actually affordable. Check them out here http://www.physiciansformula.com/en-us/staticpage/organic-wear.html

In terms of lotion, you will definitely want to try Dani Organic Body Lotion. It’s made with certified organic ingredients, and it feels fantastic on your skin. My favorite scent is the Lemongrass Lavender. http://www.verdessence.com/product/brand/dani/Organic-Body-Lotion

I recently tried a new organic shampoo, which I really like. It’s by the brand Kiss My Face. They have a nice selection of haircare products, as well as other personal care products. http://www.kissmyface.com/productpage.html

Hope this helps. Good luck in your search!

Are there any natural cosmetics that you can make at a kid’s birthday party?

Posted by: Susan Wilson - Natural Organic Makeup  :  Category: natural cosmetics

I’m turning 11 in a week, and I’m looking for ideas for natural cosmetic recipes like lip gloss, glitter, etc. It would be really helpful!

Thanks!

Aw, happy birthday! :)

Anyways, here are some ideas you can use:

Lip gloss (you’ll need)
~vaseline OR beeswax (depends on what you like)
~sunflower oil (just a drop or two for every teaspoon of what’s above)
~flavouring like kool aid powder OR just plain honey (optional)
~colouring like food colouring or a pinch of a parent’s lipstick (optional)
~glitter (optional, and just a TINY little bit will do!)

Combine all of the ingreidients above (about 3 teaspoons of vaseline or the wax, two drops of the oil, half a teaspoon of the flavour, a few drops of the colouring, and just a pinch of the glitter) put them into a microwave-safe (no plastic or metal!) bowl. Pop into the microwave for 30 seconds, take out, stir, and pop back in for another 10 seconds or so. If the gloss starts to bubble, take it out, wait for a few seconds, and pop back in again so it doesn’t burn. After, pop it into a fridge for about 1-2 hours and there you go! Lip gloss! :)

Make sure you ask a parent for help and I wish you a great birthday! :)

Organic skincare for oily and sensitive skin?

Posted by: Susan Wilson - Natural Organic Makeup  :  Category: organic skincare

I am becomingly apprehensive to use a lot of products out on the market. I used to be a huge fan of Cetaphil for Normal/Oily skin, but now it seems to be drying out and irritating my skin. Many products seem to be filled with parabens, sulfates, and silicone. Can you recommend any products that keep stay away from those ingredients?

Hi

They say that imitation is the best form of flattery. Interestingly over the last few years the major brands, have released “organic” or “natural” products. But there is a world of difference between these products and truly organic products such as MiEssences, Mukti, Clariscents and Pure Earth.

Organic Skincare – What to look for?
So what do you need to look for when shopping for organic skincare and what should you avoid?

Look for products that:
* are certified by The National Association for Sustainable Agriculture, Australia (NASAA) or by Australian Certified Organic (ACO).
* have natural products in their ingredients lists
* use natural preservatives like tea tree oil, or a combination of various essential oils that have antimicrobial activity (eg lavender, lemon, rose, rosemary, sage, sandalwood), grape seed extract or honey
* are Australian made as Australia has stringent organic standards.

Avoid products that:
* have the word “organic” or “natural” in their brand name but don’t have organic certification.
* have lots of chemical sounding names in the ingredients list
* that contain petrochemicals, parabens, or sulphates

Cheers
Sonya
